    Tin-Free Steel, also referred to as ECCS (Electrolytic Chromium-Coated Steel), is a widely-used metal packaging material serving as a cost-effective substitute for conventional tinplate. It adopts cold-rolled low-carbon steel as the base substrate, and forms a dual-layer protective film including metallic chromium layer and chromium-oxide hydrate layer through electrolytic chromate treatment. This material delivers outstanding lacquer bonding performance and moderate anti-corrosion capability, and it is extensively adopted in food packaging, chemical packaging and printing metal container industries.

Production Process

• Base substrate: Cold-rolled low-carbon steel coil, produced by cold rolling technology instead of hot rolling. Cold rolling guarantees uniform thickness, flat surface and precise dimensional tolerance for subsequent electrolytic chromium plating processing.
• Surface treatment: Electrolytic chromate deposition process. The inner layer is metallic chromium, and the outer layer is hydrated chromium oxide. The double-layer structure improves paint adhesion and surface oxidation resistance.
• Edge condition: Standard commercial delivery is slit edge. Mill edge can be provided according to customers' special production requirements. Slit edge is the mainstream option for can-making production, which removes burrs after precise slitting for safe stamping operation.

Main Steel Grades: MR, SPCC, T50, T52, T55, T57. The hardness grades are consistent with common tinplate substrate grades to satisfy different stamping and deep-drawing requirements.
